Enrolling a child

Compulsory education
Children living in Poland are covered by compulsory education. Admission does not depend on residence status.
How to enrol
Apply directly to the catchment school or through the city's online admission system. The year group is set by age and previous schooling.
Language support
Pupils from abroad are entitled to extra Polish lessons and catch-up classes; some schools employ an intercultural assistant.

Renting a flat

Without deposits or agency fees

Where to look
Owner listings are on OLX and in local groups; the “private” filter removes agencies charging commission. The Housing section here collects the same listings by city and district.
What a kaucja is
A refundable deposit, usually one month's rent. The conditions for its return must be written into the contract.
The contract
Sign a tenancy agreement recording meter readings and the state of the flat. Without one you cannot register your address or prove payments.
A request for prepayment before viewing the flat is a classic scam signal.

Document translation

Sworn translators

When it is required
Offices, courts, schools and notaries accept only sworn translations — stamped and carrying a register number.
Where to find one
The Ministry of Justice keeps a public register of sworn translators, searchable by language and city.
For everyday use
For correspondence and listings an ordinary translator is enough, including the one built into your browser. For documents it is not.
